Concerns about official statistics

Raise concerns through the appropriate producer, Authority or complaints route.

Start with the producing body where the issue concerns a specific dataset, method, release or correction unless independence or seriousness makes that inappropriate.

A policy disagreement is not automatically a statistical-quality failure. The relevant question is whether the statistic was produced, described, released and corrected according to the applicable statistical standards.

Where a concern is about ONS data or methodology, use the ONS statistical enquiry route. Concerns about the Authority’s own administration can use its complaints route.
